Description
Bubinga is native to western tropical Africa and occurs in southern Nigeria, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon and the Congo. The heartwood is pinkish-red to dark reddish-brown, it can also have purple or red veining. White wood is white to light brown. The fibers are straight or wavy, have a fine to medium texture with a slight natural shine. The pores are medium in size, with no specific arrangement. It has a very pleasing color, some species also have a unique drawing.
Properties
Bubing wood is hard, medium to very flexible, has an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and is very resistant to external influences and wood-destroying insects. After drying, it is dimensionally stable. Bubing wood resembles rosewood, so it is often used as a substitute.
Pocessing
The wood is easy to process, easy to cut, planer, turn, grind, glue and finish. Pieces with crimped fibers can tear during planing. It is recommended to pre-drill when nailing and screwing. It is polished to a radiant shine and soft surface.
