Steel Round Bar 1.1545, Ø55 x 500 mm

Tool carbon steel with high cloud hardness, high toughness, good hot formability and good machinability in the annealed state. Excellent for partial hardening and creating a hamon line, also suitable for the production of Damascus steel.
It is used to make tools and hand tools for processing metals, wood, plastics, rubber and meat. For example, planing knives, wheelwrights and cooper tools, logging tools for debarking, joinery and carving chisels, adzes, butcher knives, cleavers and more.

Heat treatment of tool steel 1.1545

Forging: 800 - 1000 °C
Soft Annealing: 680 - 710 °C
Annealing to reduce stress: 600 - 650 °C
Hardening: in water 750 - 770 °C for small and complex objects
Hardening: in water 760 - 790 °C for large and simple objects
Hardening: in oil 790 - 820 °C for objects up to 3 mm thick
Annealing: 100 - 250 °C
Achieved hardness: 58 - 65 HRC

Supplied material

The material is delivered in annealed condition.
There may be scale or surface corrosion on the surface.
Some material may be descaled by sandblasting at the factory.
Depending on the production technology, the material may not be perfectly flat.
Microcracks may be present on the surface of the material during production, therefore it is recommended to grind from the top layer approx. 0.1 - 0.15 mm.

Material diameter tolerance: +/- 1.0 mm
Material length tolerance: +/- 3.0 mm

Grinding and sharpening of cutlery and blades

Standard sanding belts with ceramic grain can be used for grinding steel, eg 3M 777F, Norton R976, VSM XK870X, Deerfos PS999, or sanding belts with premium ceramic grain, eg 3M Cubitron II 984F, 3M Cubitron II 784F, Norton R980, Deerfos Bora7. Sanding belts 3M Trizact 237AA, 3M Trizact 337DC, Norton NORaX U254, VSM KK712X, VSM KK772J and others can be used for sharpening and polishing blades.
