Description

The European cherry is native to Europe and the British Isles, and is also found in Scandinavia, southwestern Russia, western Asia, and the mountains of North Africa. The heartwood is orange-red with greenish stripes, the sapwood is white to yellowish. The fibers are straight or slightly wavy, with a fine to medium texture, with a silky sheen. The pores are small, without a specific arrangement. The cherry wood used in the woodworking industry is not from trees grown in the garden, but from wild trees found in forest stands, therefore the supply of wood is somewhat limited.

Properties

The wood is hard, medium heavy and medium resistant. It has good dimensional stability, strength and impact resistance, dries well and tends to be stable. Due to its decorative appearance, it is used for the production of luxury furniture and art objects.

Processing

It is easy to work, cuts, plans, turns, grinds and glues well. The wood is also suitable for bending. The smooth and fine surface of the material allows you to create even perfect surface finishes.

Use

Due to its colorful appearance, European cherry wood is mainly used for the production of decorative furniture and art objects. It is impact-resistant, which is why it is also used for gun stocks. It was widely used in the historical Biedermeier direction.
