Occurrence: Sonoran Desert, Other names: Arizona Ironwood, Palo-de-Fierro, Tree size: height 6 - 10 m, trunk diameter 0.4 - 0.6 m, Density of dry wood: 1 210 kg/m3, Janka hardness: 14 500 N
The heartwood is yellow to brown, with dark brown stripes. White wood is yellowish white. The fibers are straight or wavy with a natural sheen.
The wood is heavy and very hard, difficult to process, it is used for the production of knife handles, turning and carving.
